"Even though I have now been practising engraving for more than thirty-five years, I only discovered the joy of mezzotint about ten years ago. Back in 1996 I saw an exhibition in the National Library in Paris (Bibliothèque nationale), “Anatomie de la couleur”. Then I was able to reconcile printing and painting. I understood that, in order to delight in the pleasure of subtle shades, it was necessary to submit to the discipline of the rocker and the burnisher, which I did a few years later. Today I use this technique as well as the others according to the subjects which I feel I must tackle. It is a real delight to see the light slowly emerging on the plate. It reminds me of the photographs I used to develop in the photo lab when I was young.”
